If you become involved in any such matters then it is important to take prompt and early advice from a reliable colleague. Someone that you trust and has some experience of the issue at hand.  Your best interests may be served by avoiding institutional advice in such circumstances.  In the end, it is likely that you will require advice from a reliable lawyer.  Advice is expensive and not always precisely aligned with your professional interests.
